Notable MATTERS

  • Represented wholesale seafood supplier during a federal investigation that ended by convincing prosecutors to decline bringing charges against the client.

  • Successfully defended gas utility facing $26 million in fines for alleged violations of pipeline maintenance regulations by establishing that regulators misapplied federal law and potentially violated the client’s due process rights leading to a resolution with no finding of fault or payment of a fine.

  • Conducted internal investigation that cleared officers of a Manhattan-based state public authority of alleged ethical misconduct.

  • Won dismissal of a federal civil rights lawsuit against a state investigator who testified accurately at the corruption trial of former New York City Councilman, who sued after his conviction was overturned.

  • As deputy General Counsel for the Long Island Power Authority, led multi-agency investigation into the service provider’s lack of preparation for a summer storm that left most of the utility’s customers without power for days.  The investigation’s findings led to numerous operational and contract reforms.

  • As a Justice Department prosecutor:

    • Tried and convicted an Ohio-based shipping company and its vice president of operations of intentionally dumping waste oil and other pollutants into the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers during a twenty-year conspiracy to violate the Clean Water Act.

    • Led an eight-year investigation and two trials that ended with the convictions of defendants involved in a decade-old, cold-case triple homicide.

    • Took over a stalled federal investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of the highest-ranking uniformed member of the Suffolk County Police Department on criminal civil rights charges arising from his beating of a handcuffed prisoner, whom he also threatened to kill.
